Read Like a Riverhawk

Thank you and congratulations to all of our students that partipated in the Read Like a Riverhawk night.  Students who completed their reading goals were honored during the half-time of a Canyon Ridge boys basketball game.  The kids were so excited for their moment to shine.  Mrs. Nielsen's class even had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem before the game began.  Great job second graders!  We are proud of you!

Fieldtrip

The second grade is currently working on a unit in our Wonder's Reading series called "What have you learned about the world that surprises you?" Several of the stories in this unit discuss the weather.

We will be taking a fieldtrip to KMVT to visit their newsroom and weather station.  We are excited to provide this opportunity to our kids.  The following is information you will need to know for that field trip:
  • Classes will be going individually:
    • 2/17/15 (Tuesday) Mrs. Stokesberry's class
    • 2/18/15 (Wednesday) Mrs. Cowger's Class
    • 2/19/15 (Thursday) Mrs. Impomeni's Class
    • 2/20/15 (Friday) Mrs. Brown's Class
    • 2/23/15 (Monday) Mrs. Snow's Class
    • 2/24/15 (Tuesday) Mrs. Nielsen's class
  • We will leave the school at 10:30.  Before leaving students will be provided with a snack.
  • We will be at KMVT until 1:00.
  • Students will miss their lunch while on this field trip.  Please send your student to school with a sack lunch on the day of the fieldtrip.  Students will eat upon returning to school.
  • If you are interested in attending this fieldtrip, please talk to your child's teacher.

Second Grade Christmas Play

Wow!  Our kids worked really hard and it sure paid off.  They did a great job performing in "The Littlest Christmas Tree."  We appreciate all the parents who brought their kids and hope that you enjoyed the performance as much as we did.  They were awesome.

Our choir practiced so hard.
They sang perfectly.

We are so proud of all the kids who had speaking parts...which was everyone.  We really had to work with the trees and elves to get them to be a little bit "snobby."  I guess that should make us all proud that it took so much work!!

The dolls and soldiers worked so hard on their dances.  It really paid off.

Everyone's favorite...here comes Santa Claus...along with Mrs. Claus and some cute reindeer.

We are so proud of our second graders.  It always feels good to put in a lot of work and then reap the rewards.  Hope your holiday season was wonderful!  Merry Christmas!

Fire Safety

Each year, second grade gets the opportunity to have four informative visits from the fire department.  Our favorite fireman, Firefighter Dave, visited us last week.  During this visit he talked to the kids about what to do in case of a fire, having an escape route, and having a safe meeting place where you can meet your family away from the home.  Our kids do a great job listening, asking questions, and doing LOTS of sharing!  We are thankful to the Twin Falls Fire Department for visiting us and providing us with such important information!

CRHS Library Field Trip

Our second grade had a great time walking over to the library at Canyon Ridge High School.  Mrs. Johnson is the librarian there.  She used to be a teacher at Perrine.  Since she doesn't get to be with the little kids anymore, she is very kind to welcome us to her big kid library.  She reminded us about fiction and non-fiction and taught us how a library is set up according to these two genres.  Our students had a great time.  We are thankful that we were able to attend.

Field Trip Reminder...

This is a reminder that we will be going on our first field trip tomorrow.  We will leave the school at 8:15.  Please be sure your child is on time.  We are walking to Canyon Ridge High School.  The librarian puts on a very nice presentation about libraries for us.  It is educational and fun.  Be sure your child is wearing good shoes for walking and brings a jacket.  It will be chilly.  We will only cancel if it is pouring down rain.  We can walk in light rain.  If it looks like rain, you may choose to send an umbrella with your son or daughter.  We will be back to the school before lunch.
Thanks and have a great night!
